Liberation
The work part of a series entitled <Liberation> embodies a moment of transcendence; ‘a being’ freed from weight and gravity. The series of work uses photography as a medium, high speed photography in specific. The work is made by one straight shoot throughout artist’s father or husband who repetitively executed dropping stone, without digital composition of coordinates on the frame. This performative practice of “lifting and dropping heavy stone” continues until the artist got the frame that as if the gravity and weight of the object disappeared.
On the artist’s work in general, ‘gravity’ is appeared as a metaphor of ‘memento mori’ and the phenomenon of ‘free fall’ as a 'process of our lifetime.' Although we had no choice to be born, we are here, just like an object thrown in the space with gravity. We have to bear the weight of life every single day until it’s over. Someone just bears it, someone builds a tower of wish, or desires something beyond. And there are rare magical moments as if there are nothing to bear for our being. The moment is hard to be recognized when it happened, only can be recalled, what we called memories.
